Frequently Asked Questions

My child just moved in with me after living with my ex-spouse.  Doesn't my child support stop?

In order to stop your current child support, you must get a new court order that changes custody and may require the other parent to begin paying child support.

I lost my job.  Can I have my child support lowered?

Absolutely!  However, you must obtain permission from the Court.  We can prepare all the documents you need to make that request.

Does the Court require that I have an attorney?

No.  You have the right to represent yourself!

Won't the Court appoint an attorney to represent me if I can't afford one?

No, the only time a judge is required to appoint an attorney is if there is a possibility you can go to jail and that you are living at the poverty level.

How much can I save by representing myself?

If you represent yourself, you can save 50% to 75% of what traditional legal representation would cost you.
